President’s Day weekend didn’t used to be an insert-free holiday. Neither did the Sunday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As of last year, though, they both became devoid of coupons, and it looks like they might be staying that way.
For the second year in a row, there will be no coupon inserts in your Sunday newspaper this coming holiday weekend. It’s already the second weekend of the year with no coupons, after MLK Day weekend last month.
And what a year it’s been so far! SmartSource didn’t publish an insert last Sunday, either, so it’s once again taking what used to be a highly unusual two-week break. In all, there have been just four SmartSource editions so far this year, and only three Save inserts. That’s a grand total of seven coupon inserts over the past seven weeks.
So there’s no sense reiterating that printed coupon inserts are on the decline, since the evidence is right in front of us. On the bright side, though, both inserts are scheduled to return the following week, so at least there’s that to look forward to.
In the meantime, you can search our coupon database for additional coupons. And be sure to look at the latest cash-back offers from Ibotta, Checkout 51 or Makeena for additional savings, or check out Merryfield or Fetch to see how you can turn your receipts into gift cards.
And then Easter weekend is just six weeks away! So another insert-free weekend is fast approaching – if we don’t end up seeing another one even sooner than that.
