One week earlier than originally anticipated, the SmartSource coupon insert will return to Sunday newspapers this weekend, for the first time since way back on June 30th.
Publisher Neptune Retail Solutions has been silent about the reasons behind the unprecedented six-week break between editions. But, as discussed last week, the pause came as SmartSource’s top client, Bayer, moved its coupon offers to the competing Save insert. Bayer brands alone had provided nearly a third of all the coupons published in SmartSource inserts in the first half of this year. And that was as SmartSource inserts had already become thinner, with fewer offers from other brands.
SmartSource’s largest advertiser is now Sanofi, maker of brands like Allegra, Nasacort and Xyzal. So it is, perhaps, telling that half of the eight coupons in this weekend’s edition are from Sanofi. After losing its largest client, the next-largest is now that much more important when it comes to how often SmartSource will have enough coupons to warrant publishing future editions.
As always, while you look ahead to this weekend, you can search our coupon database for additional coupons. And be sure to look at the latest cash-back offers from Ibotta, Checkout 51 or Makeena for additional savings, or check out Merryfield or Fetch to see how you can turn your receipts into gift cards!
