One week on, one week off, one week on, one week off…
For the past couple of months, the publication of the Sunday coupon inserts has fallen into an every-other-week pattern – both Save and SmartSource published inserts last week, but not the week before. There were inserts the week before that, and none the prior week. And so on.
The pattern continues this weekend, as there will be no inserts from either coupon publisher in your Sunday newspaper. Both published inserts last weekend, and are expected to do so next weekend.
And the week after that? It’s Memorial Day weekend, when there are traditionally no coupon inserts published. So look for that on-again-off-again pattern to continue through at least the rest of this month.

For those keeping count, this is the seventh weekend out of 19 so far this year, when there have been no coupon inserts at all. Most weekends, both insert providers have published in tandem – either both have an insert, or both don’t, which is probably preferable to alternating weeks. If you buy the Sunday paper just for the coupons, at least this way you can skip buying a newspaper on the weeks when there are no inserts at all.
So enjoy your Mother’s Day weekend, and hope all of the moms out there get what they wanted – just as long as they didn’t want coupons.
