No Sunday Coupon Sneak Peek

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Hope you don’t like coupons.

You may be wearing green this weekend, but you won’t be saving any green. The insert publishers often take major holiday weekends off, but St. Patrick’s Day was never considered one of those “major holidays” – until now.

There will be no coupon inserts in your newspaper this Sunday, March 17th. It’s the third weekend of the year so far without any coupons, after President’s Day weekend and the Sunday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

What also seems noteworthy is that there have been only three weekends so far this year with both a SmartSource and a Save insert, which used to practically be a given. Instead, the year so far has been a patchwork. Sometimes there’s a SmartSource insert, sometimes a Save insert, sometimes both and sometimes – like this weekend – neither.

The good news is that both inserts are scheduled to return next weekend. But the Sunday after that is Easter, when the insert publishers have traditionally taken the weekend off. So insert-free weekends are something we’ll have to get used to, as they become a more common occurrence than they used to be.

In the meantime, you can look at the latest cash-back offers from Ibotta, Checkout 51 or Makeena for additional savings, or check out Merryfield or Fetch to see how you can turn your receipts into gift cards.

So the rest of the month will be filled with red-letter days. There’s St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, Easter at the end of the month, and two inserts the weekend in between – which, at this rate, is cause enough for celebration.
