According to a new survey from Consumer Reports that ranks 62 of the country’s top grocery chains, these 16 are at the very bottom of the list.

We’ve flipped the list on its head, to rank the stores from the bottom up. So, in order from bad to worst, here are the stores that more than 50,000 respondents said they were least impressed with, and why – with some help from the wonderfully snarky and brutally honest reviewers on Yelp.com.

16. Albertsons

albertsons bagAlbertsons is now the second-largest traditional grocery chain in the country – but bigger apparently isn’t better.

Consumer Reports readers gave Albertsons average scores in nearly all categories, but they were particularly peeved about its prices. And many outspoken shoppers have taken to the online review site Yelp to agree – strenuously, and snarkily.

“Who are you kidding with those prices that are almost equivalent to the prices you see at Whole Foods?” one reviewer asks. “The shelves are empty,” another reviewer complains. “Prices are too high for the quality of anything you actually are able to purchase.” A third reviewer sums it up like this: “Mediocre dumpster of an excuse of a grocery store. I literally live two blocks away and will go out of my way to anywhere, yes anywhere, else than here.”

Maybe that’s why they don’t use the slogan “Good things are just around the corner” anymore.
